We came across this baton twirling video interpretation of Michael Jackson’s Thriller. This is just in time for Halloween, and coincides with the limited engagement release of the Michael Jackson film, This Is It. Enjoy this fun novelty baton routine…twirlers in witch Halloween costumes!
Baton twirling is a sport that involves girls and boys, women and men. That being said, the majority of the participants are girls and young women. Our sport is full of precious, talented, and beautiful girls. We came across this short film showing how computer effects, makeup, and hair are used to change how a model looks “before” to the image on a billboard “after”.
We consider this video required viewing for the girls and young women we know. Altered marketing images are so prevalent in our culture - on TV, in movies, in videos, on the internet, and in magazines. We appreciate the reminder that these images are not of real people and that they set a false standard. We hope that at every opportunity you will remind the girls in your life that they are truly beautiful, inside and out, and that they are treasured!
Here’s a short baton twirling video newsclip about baton twirling classes offered through the Bangor and Augusta Parks & Recreation Departments in Maine.
It’s wonderful to see coach Andrea Fletcher and some the twirlers from the Central Maine Twirling Corps featured, while spreading the word and lending exposure to the sport of baton twirling! If you are looking locally for beginning baton twirling lessons, inquiring at your recreation department or community center can be worthwhile.
We recently came across this video, circa 1980’s, of Nathalie Enterline. She has been a professional act for many years throughout Europe and the USA. She performs a stunning blend of dance, baton twirling, and hat and cane in a cabaret style, with homage paid to Charlie Chaplain. Her training as a baton twirler is evident, although her act is multifaceted.
Nathalie is originally from Pennsylvania and began studying dance at a young age at her parents’ Enterline Performing Arts Center and at the Williamsport Civic Ballet. She competed in the baton twirling circuit during the 1970’s. She continued to study dance in New York City. She met legendary juggler Francis Brunn while performing in Montreal. Their subsequent collaboration lasted many years and Nathalie was his on-stage assistant. His influence helped shape her distinctive red hat and baton act, and Nathalie has continued to perform professionally for more than 20 years.
Her impressive bio includes The Lido de Paris, Tigerpalast Variety Theater in Germany, Big Apple Circus in New York, Casino Cabaret in Monte Carlo, and many TV appearances.
Wow! Look at all of these baton twirlers! (The action starts at 1:20)
This parade was part of the Baton Twirling Spectacular in June 2009 at Disneyland in southern California. The event was sponsored by Baton Twirling Etc.
