2011 International Cup Twirling Competition Begins in Jacksonville

August 2nd, 2011 · 2 Comments · Baton Competitions and Contests, Baton Twirlers and Majorettes Around The World, Videos

The world’s best baton twirlers are gathering this week for the 2011 International Cup Twirling Competition sponsored this year by the United States Twirling Association (USTA). The event is one of the most anticipated baton competitions and is sanctioned by the World Baton Twirling Federation, an international baton twirling association.

12 countries are sending over 400 baton twirling athletes to the USA to compete at the week long championships at the beautiful Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.

“USTA is excited to bring the 2011 International Cup to Jacksonville,” said USTA President Mark Nash. “The athletes and their families, coaches and national delegations are looking forward to competing in a first-class facility”.

“We’re also looking forward to sharing the sport of baton twirling with Jacksonville residents,” added Nash. “Some people have an outdated perception of twirlers as the ‘majorettes’ of the 1950s, but these twirlers are true athletes who train like Olympians and put on great performances while demonstrating the eye-hand coordination of hockey players, the flexibility of gymnasts and the artistry of figure skaters.”

The 2011 International Cup baton twirling athletes represent many countries including Australia, Canada, England, France, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Scotland, Slovenia, Switzerland and the United States. The delegation of twirlers from Japan will be very missed this year. They unfortunately needed to withdraw from the competition subsequent to the devastating earthquake and tsunami that impacted their country earlier this year.

      Herve,

Wonderful to hear from you and thank you for your comment. You must be so very proud of your daughter! We did not attend the International Cup competition, but followed it through others on Twitter and Facebook and in the press coverage.

You are right…a wonderful experience for them. It is such an exciting competition and an opportunity to meet baton twirlers from many different countries.

I hope Nolwenn had a successful week and that she and your wife have many new memories!
