Just Back from USTA California State Championships

May 19th, 2009 · No Comments · Baton Competitions and Contests, Videos: Baton Soloists

I attended the California State Baton Twirling Championships this past weekend. This wonderful event is put on by the California Baton Council and is a USTA (United States Twirling Association) sanctioned contest that marks the culmination of the competitive season in northern California.

The 2-day Championships were held in the beautiful gymnasium at Heritage High School in Brentwood, CA. What a spectator-friendly facility that managed to stay relatively cool despite the unseasonable 100 degree temperature outside! Team and freestyle competitions were held on Saturday, and all of the other individual State title events were held on Sunday. The State contest also included “May Madness”, which provided a full array of competitive events for novice and intermediate level athletes.

It was delightful to watch the performances of so many baton twirling athletes at different levels of skill. Bravo to them all for the time and effort they devoted to prepare for this important competition. And, hats off to the parents and families that support the athletes, and to the California Baton Council for organizing the Championships.

I so enjoyed to chance to connect and chat with long time twirling friends who continue to coach and judge.

You’ll find full results and photos of the winners posted soon on the California Baton Council website.
