World Baton Championships Coming to Ghent, Belgium

The National Baton Twirling Association’s World Championships are coming up soon in Ghent, Belgium.  This international competition is scheduled for April 8-12, 2009.

We found media coverage of  many baton twirlers in the US, who are excitedly practicing and making final preparations to attend and compete.

The Senior Modernettes from Pennsylvania

The Modernettes are the current Grand National Show Corps with Props Champions.  They have competed in all 6 of the NBTA World Championships and are experienced in representing the US.  They are former medal winners and are based in Pennsylvania.

Rebecca Lantz from Lake Elsinore, California will be competing  in all 4 individual events: 1-baton, 2-baton, strut, and rhythmic twirl.  This talented 11-year old talks about her past achievements, travels, and practice schedule in the video interview with the Fallbrook Village News.

The Razzle Dazzles Junior Parade Corps will also be traveling to Ghent, Belgium.  This group of 28 twirlers were 1st place winners in last summer’s national event.  They have been fund raising since last July, in order to attend the World Championships.

Wendy Russell Coaches the South Florida Superstars

Wendy Russell directs the South Florida Superstars.  This organization was formed 30 years ago and they are delighted to be on the world team for the 1st time.  Their 27-member flag and color guard team will be one of 5 teams representing the US at the World Championships.
